Vestige

Situated in the centre of the lower hall, Vestige consists of six images of the Roman Road and brick walls of the St. Mary's Guildhall, each covered with transparent film, and placed randomly on the glass display above the road. Inspired by preservation as well as the action of walking on glass floors, the overall presentation aimed to celebrate the architectural features of the building. As a site specific body of work, Vestige focused on various details or traces while the application of transparent film were to represent the function of glass as they showed reflection and preserved the photographs.

By layering varied materials, Vestige demonstrated the contrast of textures and replicated the employment of modern techniques when preserving historical features. With the purpose of appreciating and raising audiences' awareness to details in our surroundings, Vestige offered a new perspective through the interaction between reality and abstract.
